Spring 2007
Welcome to the Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching & Learning (KyJECT&L)!
May 10, 2007
Dear Readers of the Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning:
With this issue, the Journal has completed its fifth year of publication with the support of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, The Kentucky Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, Eastern Kentucky University, The Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Louisville. It also completes my third and final year as editor of the Journal. It has been both a challenging and rewarding experience. I could not have done it without the help of my technical editor, Robin P. Haggerty, and Southeast’s web master, Dr. Gary D. Gibson. Both have helped take care of the technical details of publication. I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks for all their hard work and support. I would also like to thank all of you who have faithfully served on the review teams over the past several years. You perform an excellent service for the educators of the state and beyond. Our division secretary, Mary Jo Brashears, has also been of inestimable aid in printing the journal’s hard copy each year.
We are reaching an ever widening pool of authors who continue to contribute articles on best teaching practices, research, theory, and profiles. The articles go through an intensive peer review, and the authors frequently make extensive revisions to their work prior to publication. It is one of our goals to work with authors to produce a publishable quality manuscript.
The profiles section of the journal was originally intended to include articles on Kentucky educators, but since there have never been any submissions in this category, we expanded it this year to include profiles of interesting and challenging venues experienced by Kentucky educators; thus, in this issue we have articles on teaching in China and on teaching on the extended campus.
The new editor of the Journal, beginning July 1, 2007, will be Dr. Kenneth Rhee from Northern Kentucky University. Inquiries and submissions may be made to him at
rhee@nku.edu Professor Rhee has been a member of our review team since the inception of the Journal. This experience will help him ease his way into the position of editor. We will work together to make a smooth transition of editorship.
Sincerely,
Katherine M. Thomas, Editor, KyJECT&L
